Take off
You start at the station. To fly, you just click where you want to go and the ship heads there.
Zephnex is a space game for many players at once. You fly your own ship, fight drones and pirates, gather resources, sell them and use the money to upgrade your ship.
Free to play, no sign-up, right in your browser.Free to play, right in your browser.
You basically do the same five things again and again, just with a better ship each time.
1 of 5
You start at the station. To fly, you just click where you want to go and the ship heads there.
2 of 5
On the way you run into drones, raiders and corsairs. You pick an enemy and shoot. In the later sectors the enemies are a lot stronger.
3 of 5
Enemies you defeat leave loot behind that you can pick up. There are also fields of stone, crystal, ore and iridium. All of it goes into your cargo hold.
4 of 5
You sell your cargo at the station. The market reacts to supply and demand: if something is scarce, you get more for it. If many players deliver the same thing, the price drops.
5 of 5
With the money you buy better lasers, shields and engines, or a bigger ship. After that you can go to places that were too dangerous before.
You start out in the Splinter. Which ship you buy after that depends on whether you prefer fighting or trading.

Everyone starts with this ship. It is small and agile and a good way to get to know the game.

The fastest of the four ships, with more equipment slots than the Splinter.

A freighter. Its cargo hold takes more than seven times as much as the Splinter, but it is the slowest ship.

The combat ship. It has room for three lasers, three shields and two drones, but only a small cargo hold.
This ship is now flying along in the background of the page.
The game is made up of several sectors connected by portals. The later ones have more valuable resources, but also more dangerous enemies.
Sector 01safe
Every pilot starts here. You buy and sell at the central station and gather your first resources in the stone fields around it. The drones only fight back if you attack them first, and other players cannot harm you in this sector. A portal takes you on to Sector 02.
Sector 02contestedfrom level 3
The crystal fields and ore belts in this sector earn you a lot more than stone, and you can sell and repair at the outpost. In return, raiders, corsairs and vipers attack on their own, and other players are allowed to shoot at you here as well. The Dreadnought, one of the big enemies in the game, is around too.

Sector 03contestedfrom level 8
You can only reach the third sector through Sector 02. This is where the iridium veins are, and iridium is the rarest resource in the game. The reavers flying here are stronger than anything in the sectors before, and the Leviathan is the biggest enemy in the game. You can sell and repair at the Bastion.

Rift Fissurecoming soon
Sector 02 has a portal to the Rift Fissure that only opens from time to time. Behind it, a group of up to four players takes on the Rift Warden together. The Rift Fissure is not available yet and will be added later.
From time to time there are events in the sectors, for example a pirate raid, a meteor field or a convoy.
There are several ways to make a ship stronger. Which of them you use is up to you.
You can try the four abilities here.
Makes you a lot faster for a short time.Repairs part of the hull, even in the middle of a fight.Recharges your shield.A quick move to dodge shots.
At the start you pick one of three factions. You cannot change that later. The factions fight over the territories every week. The faction that holds a territory pays less for repairs there and gathers more resources.
Tap a faction to see its colour.
In the first sector nobody attacks you as long as you do not attack anyone yourself.
